Cottage Inn Pizza Continues Strategic Growth Strategy
Michigan pizza franchise hopes to expand across United States and in China using measured approach
Cottage Inn Pizza is a storied institution in Ann Arbor, Michigan but the Michigan pizza franchise is not content to rest on its laurels. The 69-year-old company started franchising in the late ‘80s and since then has developed a pragmatic approach to expansion, recruiting franchisees after evaluating their passion for both high-quality pizza and a dedication to the communities they serve.
Now with more than 50 locations across the United States, the Michigan pizza franchise is ramping up expansion in its home state, across the rest of the United States and also in China. In an article for QSR’s web magazine, Debbie Masse, Senior Vice President of Cottage Inn, said that growth would follow a tightly scripted strategy.
Masse hopes for several more stores in 2018, but insists that quality and care of existing franchisees is more important than meeting growth numbers. The Michigan pizza franchise is known for a wide array of more than 30 gourmet pizza options. A suite of unconventional and delicious choices such as The Cuban (Carolina Gold barbecue sauce, pulled pork and ham topped with bread and butter pickles) is expected to help the Michigan pizza franchise carve an appetizing niche in the market.
To that end, Cottage Inn Pizza will expand to new locations by pursuing a multi-pronged approach: takeout pizza, pizza delivery locations and its newest concept, the Cottage Inn Taverna which is a sit-down restaurant with beer and cocktails complementing the extensive pizza selections. Exactly which kind of store will open at the new locations will depend on the type of market saturation and the opportunities for revenue. The Taverna, for example, will mostly be situated in bedroom communities.
“We’re looking forward to nationwide growth over the next few years but we’re going to do it slow and steady and make sure we pick quality franchisees who can keep our brand growing and the commitment to customer service strong,” Masse says, “we believe if it’s five-star service in a five-star environment, which means cleanliness and fresh food, and we produce the best product every time, we can be a success.”
